KÍ come into this CL contest in great form, with the hosts claiming victory in each of their last six matches in all competitions. The runaways Icelandic league leaders scored 16 and conceded just four during that winning sequence.
Now with a 12-point advantage at the summit of the Meistaradeildin, KI turns their attention to Champions League qualification. Competing in this competition for only the third time since 2000, the reigning Icelandic champions were unfortunate to lose 4:3 to Bodo/Glimt in last season´s qualifying campaign and will fancy their chances here against a Ferencvaros side yet to kick off their own domestic season.
Indeed, KI have managed to win both previous home legs in CL qualifying with a 3:0 win against Slovan Bratislava in 2020 and a 3:1 win recorded against Bodo last season and should prove tough opponents, particularly given the likelihood of a little rustiness in the visitors game
While Ferencvaros are very much favourites to progress to the next phase of the qualifying campaign, KI´s continuity of form and strong record at Við Djúpumýrar suggests they could take advantage of an opponent that has not played a competitive fixture since the end of May.
With that in mind, I´m backing Klaksvik to take a much-needed first-leg advantage ahead of a daunting trip to Budapest next week.
