The Stadion HNK Rijeka plays host to a crucial Europa Conference League playoff on Thursday as Rijeka takes on Lille.

Lille arrives in Croatia protecting a narrow first-leg advantage after a 2-1 win in France last Thursday. Having trailed early in the first half, a late goal from 17-year-old Leny Yoro secured the French side a vital first-leg victory.

While big favourites to progress to the group phase, Lille now faces a tricky-looking trip to the Croatian coast with Rijeka in tremendous early-season form at home.

Coming into this crucial second leg, RJK have won all five games played at the Stadion HNK Rijeka this season. Sergej Jakirović´s side scored 20 goals in those five victories. 

In this competition, Rijeka have also won four of their last six home matches and will fancy their chances of giving their French visitors a really tough match. 

Lille´s recent away record should give the Croats plenty of confidence - Paulo Fonseca´s side have failed to win any of their last nine away games, with their last road victory coming all the way back in March. In fact, Les Dogues have won just 2 of their previous 16 away games in 2023. Most recently, Lille suffered a 4:1 hammering at Lorient in Ligue 1 this past weekend. 

Given those numbers, I´m going to take a chance on Rijeka pulling off a big victory on Thursday. While massive underdogs to qualify, RJK´s great home form, coupled with Lille´s miserable road returns, suggests an upset could be on the cards at the Stadion HNK Rijeka. 

Backing the hosts not to lose is my main selection; however, Sergej Jakirović´s side could even win on the night at very attractive odds.
