Cardiff City have been more or less constantly in the Championship in the 21st century, with only two appearances in the Premier League. The last time they were in the Premier League was in the 2018/19 season. Since their relegation (in the same season), we can see a constant decline in Cardiff's results, even in the Championship. Last season, the Bluebirds were super lucky to avoid relegation as they finished 21st, just five points away from the danger zone. But if it weren't for Reading's six-point deduction, Cardiff would drop to League One. This season, the Bluebirds are doing much better and are currently 7th, just one point away from the playoffs. 

In the past, West Bromwich Albion mainly were a Premier League team, and whenever they would drop to the Championship, the Baggies would be among the best teams and fairly easily return to the English top-flight division. But since their last relegation in the 2020/21 season, WBA are not on the expected level as they finished 10th and 9th in the following two seasons. This season, West Bromwich Albion had a much better start and are 5th with 29 points, two away from their next opponent, Cardiff City, but already ten behind the 2nd-placed Ipswich.

West Bromwich Albion is on an excellent streak, winning four of the last five games and scoring ten goals - two per game. On the road, even though they haven't been impressive, with only two wins in nine games, the Baggies were pretty efficient, scoring at least one goal on eight occasions.
