Sunderland, once a stable Premier League team, had two terrible seasons in 2016/17 and 2017/18, getting relegated all the way to League One (third tier of English competition). They slowly climbed back to the Championship, and last season reached the playoffs for the Premier League, but were eliminated in the Semi-Finals by Luton, which eventually gained promotion. This season, the Black Cats are hanging around the playoffs and are currently 9th, just two points away from the playoff spot.
Last year, Huddersfield had a terrible season and salvaged it with ten points in the last four games, which helped them escape relegation. This season, the Terriers once again had a terrible start, as they are currently 21st, just four points away from the relegation zone. As the season progresses, the Terriers are only getting worse, but, to be fair, they are having injury problems.
Sunderland vs Huddersfield pick: Sunderland to win and cover the -1 AH spread
Sunderland had a superb period before the international break, winning seven points in three games. However, they ended that good streak by losing to Plymouth by 2:0, but the Black Cats were a lot better and deserved a lot more from the match. Now, we expect them to bounce back with a home win against struggling Huddersfield. At home, Sunderland were solid, winning five of eight matches (62.5%), with four of those five wins being by two or more goals difference.
Huddersfield are in terrible form, winning only two points in the previous five matches and scoring only two goals! Even in those two games where they won points, vs Southampton and Watford, the Terriers were heavily dominated and could easily lose the games.
Based on what we have seen from these teams this season, including Sunderland's home advantage and Huddersfield's terrible form, anything other than a comfortable win for the Black Cats would surprise us.

Sunderland team news
Four players who already missed the previous games will remain sidelined with long-term injuries: Ajibola Alese, Corry Evans, Jay Matete, and Timothee Pembele.
After a 2:0 loss to Plymouth, coach Tony Mowbray spoke to the media. He said they were pretty dominant for most of the game but conceded goals from Plymouth's only shots on the goal. "Sometimes you have to suck it up and accept it," the coach added.

Huddersfield team news
Huddersfield are having major injury problems this season, and the newest addition on the injury list is Kian Harratt, who had to leave the field vs. Southampton after only 21 minutes after suffering a hamstring injury. Also, the team's best goalkeeper, Lee Nicholls, missed the previous game with a neck injury and is questionable for the upcoming game.
Besides Harratt and Nicholls, five players who missed the previous games will remain sidelined: Danny Ward, Oliver Turton, Jack Rudoni, Patrick Jones, and Loick Ayina.
After a 1:1 draw vs Southampton, coach Darren Moore was satisfied. He said it was a special result for his side, considering they were missing several players, and some of the players had to play limited minutes. "in terms of what we've got available and what we're dealing with at the moment, I'm really pleased for the players, I have to say," the coach noted.
