Marseille will be looking for a win that will see them remain on top of the tree in Group B of the Europa League group stage when they host struggling Ajax on Thursday in France.
After offloading several players from the first team in the summer, the hosts are no longer the same in the domestic league. The Olympians are ninth in Ligue 1, having picked up just fourteen points from their twelve games so far and are winless in their last four league games (two defeats, two draws). Gennaro Gattuso's side seem to have found their feet in Europe, however, sitting at the top of Group B with eight points from four games. Trailing second-placed Brighton by just one point, Marseille know that Thursday's game is a must-win if they want to progress.
Ajax are also having a season to forget. The Jews are in 8th place in the Eredivie with just 15 points from 12 games, but there have been some changes under new coach John van 't Schip. Ajax produced a 5-star performance recently when they beat Vitesse 5-0 in the league and will know that a similar performance on Thursday will keep their hopes of finishing in the top two of Europa League Group B alive.

One of Marseille's biggest concerns this season is their inability to defend properly. The French side have kept a clean sheet just three times in their last eleven matches in all competitions and in three of the four European games played in that time, both teams scored. There has also been plenty of entertainment in Gennaro Gattuso's side's recent home games in Europe, with more than 2.5 goals scored in each of the last four encounters. Both teams scored in all four matches.
Ajax also have major problems in defence, although they have kept a clean sheet once in Europe this season. John van 't Schip's men enter Thursday's game with just two clean sheets from their last fourteen matches in all competitions. Both teams have scored in nine of those games.

Olympique de Marseille head coach Gennaro Gattuso will again be without the services of the suspended Pape Gueye on Thursday, while Valentin Rongier is nursing a knee injury.
