Morocco made a miracle at World Cup. They became the fourth African team who reach the quarterfinal, so the dream is still ongoing. After the first spot in the tough group with Croatia, Belgium, and Canada, they shocked Spain in the previous round. Against Luis Enrique's side, Morroco needed a penalty shootout. Walid Regragui's team had only 23% ball possession and six shots on the goal, but they defended brilliantly. During penalties, the hero was goalkeeper Bono, who made two saves.

Morocco have an impressive defense. They have allowed only one goal at World Cup so far. Morocco's style of football will not change against Portugal either, as we expect Walid Regragui's team to try to punish opponents on counterattacks.

After finishing 1st in group H, Portugal made another step ahead on Tuesday night when they trashed Switzerland 6-1. Portugal was much better than the opponents from the first whistle, so they secured a big win. In the 55th minute, it was already 4-0, so it was clear which team would progress to the quarterfinal.

Portugal is one of the best-attacking teams at the World Cup. They scored twelve goals in four games. Still, it will be much harder for Fernando Santos' squad to break a team like Morocco.

Morocco and Portugal met previously in 2018 at World Cup in Russia. In that game, Portugal won 1-0.

Morocco are impressive this year, so I expect them to avoid defeat on Saturday afternoon against Portugal.

Morocco Team News

Morocco likes to give their opponents most of the ball possession. In every game in Qatar, Morocco had the ball less than the opponents. In the 1/8 final against Spain, Morocco had only 23% ball possession, but they still recorded a win. We should expect a similar Morocco against Portugal too. They are happy to wait for their counterattack opportunities.

Nayef Aguerd came out against Spain because of a groin injury. He is likely to miss the upcoming match. At his place could start Jawad El Yamiq, who had only 65 minutes at World Cup so far.

Portugal Team News

Fernando Santos made one surprising change in the previous game against Switzerland when he started Goncalo Ramos instead of Cristiano Ronaldo. Ramos was brilliant as he scored three times in the 1/8 final, so he will likely stick in the starting lineup.

Nuno Mendes and Danilo Pereira will likely miss the next game against Morocco.
