Ajax have a disastrous season. They are fourth in the Europa League group with only two points from five matches, but they can leap over AEK (four points) and continue in the Conference League. That would be a big success for the Dutch side after everything this autumn. On the other hand, AEK Athens can't move up, but they will try to avoid defeat on Thursday night and finish third. 

Ajax are far beyond the desired level this season. In Eredivisie, they are 5th on the table, but with 21 points fewer than the league leader, PSV. Ajax improved recently with three wins in the last three matches. In the previous game, they won 2-1 at home against Sparta Rotterdam. The home side had an xG of 3.25, while guests had 1.05, but Ajax still had problems securing all three points. 

AEK Athens are playing well in the Greek Super League. They are second on the table with one point fewer than Panathinaikos. AEK won three of the last four matches. In the previous game, they won 1-0 at home against Aris. Although the result doesn't suggest that, this game was fairly easy for the home side. After another win, AEK will have a lot of confidence for the upcoming decisive Europa League game versus Ajax.

Ajax have been playing high-scoring games lately. They have a 17:10 goal difference in the last six matches in all competitions. Every one of those six games went over 2.5 goals. We should expect the game with at least three goals against AEK too.
