Chelsea will be looking to register back to back wins for the first time in nine games when they host Newcastle United on Tuesday night for the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

After wins against Tottenham and Brighton and a draw against Manchester City, some football fans were tempted to believe Chelsea are back to the top. Pressure starting mounting on Pochettino after successive defeats to Manchester United and Everton but the Blues will head into Tuesday's game with plenty of confidence after beating Sheffield United 2-0 last time out.

Newcastle United are also having a mixed season. Eddie Howe's side were knocked out of Europe last week and sit sixth in the league with just one win from their last three league matches. The Magpies' biggest weakness is their away record. Newcastle are winless in their last five games on the road, losing four and drawing one.

Chelsea have had a lot of issues defensively in recent weeks. Pochettino’s men boast just one clean sheet in their last seven games across all competitions and just two of those games ended without both teams scoring.

Newcastle built their success on a solid defensive foundation last season but that has been missing this season. The Magpies finished just one of their last nine games in all competitions and both teams scored in five of the last seven fixtures.
